Typically on Mac when they are disconnected they go away and don't come back unless you manually reconnect them or reboot if you have them set in login items. I find that this works like MS does when drives are disconnected.

If they are bound to active directory then you should make them mobile accounts so they cache connections and such. I know what this does but it has fixed this issue for us on more than one occasion and the bandwidth cost is not really that bad at all.Ĥ. In the network setting in system preferences, select Ethernet or wireless in the left column, advanced, hardware tab, change to manual, half-duplex. There are certain adaptor chipsets that work better. If that is the case with yours then I suggest trying a USB to Ethernet adaptor and plug it into the wired network. We saw this more often with wifi than LAN. I turn sleep off when connected to power.Ģ. Check to make sure that the NIC is not set to sleep to save power. I've seen this before and I don't remember an exact consistent fix but I do remember several things we did between Macs and now we haven't had this issue in a while.ġ. I presume all the other network functionality works without a problem? Have you tried changing the machine's name? (If necessary, unbind from the directory, rename the machine, change the NetBIOS name, etc?) Because it happens after a somewhat random period of time, I'm guessing that something in one of the network protocols that aids in name resolution is polling available devices on the network segment and there's a name collision. I assume you've booted and reset the PRAM, right? To quote an Apple Genius bar conversation I heard once, "Do a fresh install". I expect that there's some bugaboo in the system's config, and the issue will follow the hard drives.

If it is a bad NIC issue, it should stay with the NIC. If it is an OS/configuration issue, the issue should follow the hard drives. You could also take the drives from these macs and swap them. but to find out if it is a line problem, might be worth it.) (Unless you count your traffic going at 100mbps as an impact. setting the linespeed down a notch could make a signal dip not be of much impact. If you're getting random disconnections, it could also be a weak network connection flaking out. Have you attempted manually setting the line speed and duplex on the network interface(s)? I personally never trust that. But the Mac Server network shares that the machine is also connected to don't disconnect and there's no noticeable interruption to the internet either. Maybe the internal network ports are faulty (I've tried both the built in ports, with the same result). I've been sat at the machine when the Finder pops up the disconnection notification but I can ping the server that has apparently disconnected and I can also reconnect to it as well and remount the shares. The faulty machine still randomly drops the SMB shares!!! This normally happens after several hours of being connected, and seems to happen if the machine is in use or not. Configured the networking and energy saving settings as the machine that is working.Īlso switched the network connection from the machines over. I put a new SSD in the one that was playing up and installed a clean installation of El Capitan OS.

Your mapped drive is now available under My Computer. We have 2 Mac Late 2013 MacPro machines that were both running Yosemite OS.ġ of the Mac randomly unmounts Windows 2008 R2 SMB shares while the other one doesn't (they are both using the same shares and the same software accessing those same shares).
